ANOPA Project launches second phase of Project in Ghana with the RYTHM Foundation.







The ANOPA Project has officially launched its new project in Ghana with funding initiative from its partner, the RYTHM Foundation.

The theme for the project is Harnessing the potential of visually impaired, sighted and children with IDDs through infrastructure enhancement, inclusive education, vocational training and sport in Ghana.

Although the Project has already commenced, the official launch took place in Cape Coast at the ANOPA Project Premises.

The new project pays more attention to disability inclusion through the acquisition of technical and vocational skills, inclusive education for the visually impaired and the sighted, infrastructure enhancement for special schools, inclusive sport, adaptation of inclusive and assistive devices, workshops and seminars for staff and parents among others.

The beneficiary schools include the Dworwulu Special School in Accra, Ghana National Basic Inclusive School in Cape Coast and the Aboom Special School also in Cape Coast.

In attendance were representatives from the Ghana Education Service- Special Education Division, School Improvement and Support Unit of the Ghana Education Service, Ghana Sport Authority, Department of Children, Social Welfare, Heads of Schools, Ghana Deaf Sport Federation, Assemblymen, Parents and the Press among others.

This phase of the project would see inclusive schools have a collaborative and respectful school culture where students with disabilities are presumed to be competent, develop positive social relations with peers becoming full participating members of the school community and the general community at large.

The Executive Director of ANOPA Project, Mr. Ernest Appiah during his speech encouraged parents to live above the stigmatization of parenting these differently-abled children and support them in their education and integration. He used the opportunity to also encourage all stakeholders including the private sector to come onboard to give their unflinching support in creating suitable environment for all children regardless their condition and situation to thrive in education, vocation and sport. He thanked the RYTHM Foundation for their unmatched support especially towards disability inclusion and integration in Ghana.
